Ulysses James Harrington

Ulysses “Red” James Harrington was born on January 27th, 1951 in Baltimore, MD, to the late James and Vera Harrington. He was the 2nd born of 12 children. He received his education from Baltimore City Public Schools and was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the U.S Army from 1968 1971. On December 15th, 1979 he married his loving wife, Deborah Johnson. Ulysses accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age. A man of great strength and integrity, Ulysses dedicated his life to his family, his community, and his passions. He was known for his warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering loyalty. Throughout his life, he touched the hearts of many with his kindness and sense of humor, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. Ulysses was a proud Employee of the City of Deerfield Beach Streets Department and later became Supervisor of the City of Deerfield Sanitation Department. His leadership and commitment to excellence was evident in everything he did. He loved spending time with his family, especially his siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews from both Florida and Baltimore. He was known for his excellent cooking, love of dominos, and family gatherings including his huge 4th of July Celebrations. Red, as his loved ones called him, was a lucky man. He lived in the casino! He was known for his cool, calm, and collective style, gold bling, and smooth strut. Red was a well respected businessman and the backbone of Deerfield. He valued and took care of his community, especially his friends, co-workers and neighbors. Although he had retired, he still looked out for his former staff. Through his works with the city he formed an everlasting friendship with Julian Felder, General Manager of The Wyndham Hotel, and Rose at Pop’s Fish Market to name a few. He had many life-long friends that he deeply cherished. He had a deep love for children, which gave him joy and purpose throughout his life. Ulysses was a blessing to all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply, missed. Ulysses is survived by his wife Debrorah Harrington, his children Sean Harrington, Chris “Todd” Beasley, Shawanna Anderson, Patience “Joy” Harrington, Trevis Harrington; 19 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; As well as, his siblings Vanessa Wood, Alan Harrington, Nadine Givens (Everett), Edith Scott, Valerie Harrington, Eric Harrington (Shirley), Zaida Thomas (David); his in-laws Chadrick Tuff Sr (Tina), Chiquita Tuff, Linda Thompson (Charles), and Nancy Harrington; Goddaughter Shannon Powell; 38 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Doris Smith and Diana Fontaine (Joseph); his brothers Lacy Harrington and Graylin Harrington; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Tuff; his daughter in-law LaShunda Beasley; his best friends Robert “Bobby” Lancaster Jr., Willie Gammage, Oreant “Winkie” Mathews; and his Godson, Conrad Ealy.. He leaves to cherish his memory a host of family and friends including good friends Andrew Baltimore, Basil Farrington, Eddie Lucas, Antonio Booze, and Dorothy Gammage. Special thanks to his bonus sons, Emmanuel White, Celon Stokes, Larry Crowder, Danny Lowery & Lufens Etienne for being there till the very end helping with everything. Ulysses will be greatly missed. His legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
