Mary "Betty" Hargrett

Mary Alice Hargrett (a.k.a Betty) was born March 26, 1945, to the late Hattie Mae (Gordon) Odums and Cisroe Godbee in Waynesboro, Georgia. At age five, she moved to Pompano Beach, Florida with her late grandparents Samuel and Mary Gordon, Sr. She attended Broward County Schools and later graduated from Blanche Ely High School. She was a strong but loving mother, supportive friend, and a fantastic grandmother who touched the lives of many. She was known for her warm spirit, kind heart, and unforgettable personality. Betty leaves to cherish her precious memories her four children: Jacqueline Crocker Hill, Clarence Hargrett, Bruce Hargrett, and Sophia Hargrett, five grandchildren: Octavius Foreman, Britney Stewart (deceased), Elissa Stewart-Smith (Joshua), Adrian Crocker (Catherine), Jalen Hill and six great-grandchildren, sister: Ann Lee Godbee. Along with a host of family, friends and lifelong friend Ethel Mae Butts who will continue to cherish her memory. She was far from an ordinary person. She had a way of making people laugh and bringing joy wherever she went. If you sat down with her, you could talk for hours and always leave with a smile. She loved spending time with the people she cared about and was known as a helpful, strong, and particular woman who carried herself with love and pride. Betty also had many grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was more than just a grandmother — she was a motherly figure and a guiding light in their lives. She taught them how to carry themselves through life with strength, respect, and kindness, and she always treated her children and grandchildren with love, care, and understanding. One of Betty’s favorite things to do was fish, and anyone who knew her knew how much she loved the Miami Heat. She was a loyal fan through and through. Betty also had a large circle of friends from Broward County, and back home in Georgia, all of whom will remember her kindness, laughter, and unforgettable presence. Above all, Mary Betty Hargrett was a great woman whose love, wisdom, and spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
