Johnny Lamar, Jr.

Johnny Lamar, Jr. began his earthly journey on August 25, 1943, in Moultrie, Georgia. Affectionately known as ‘Pot’ by his family and friends, he had a unique sense of humor. Johnny was the second child of Flossie (Bryant) and Johnny Lamar, Sr.’s nine children. The Lamar family relocated to Pompano Beach, Florida during Johnny’s early teenage years. Johnny’s 1963 graduation from Blanche Ely high school prepared him for the next phase of his life's journey. He honorably served in the United States Army upon graduation with a tour duty in Germany. After his discharge in 1966, Johnny continued his educational pursuits at Albany State College, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970, majoring in Sociology. During his undergraduate years, Johnny pledged Omega Psi Phi, - Chi Epsilon Chapter. He continued his lifelong commitment to brotherhood and community involvement as a distinguished Charter Member of the Omega Psi Phi - Eta Nu Alumni Chapter in Pompano Beach, FL. Soon after Pot became the Program Director for Broward Employment Training and Administration (BETA), he met his soul mate and lifelong partner, Patricia Ann Malone, during the summer of 1971. Johnny and Patricia were joined in Holy Matrimony on March 22, 1980. During their marriage partnership, Johnny continued to expand in the entrepreneurial sector. He, along with his brothers, co-founded Lamar Brothers Marine Construction, Inc. Being most proud of the five children they shared, Theresa, Maurice, Johnny III, Devan, and Amber, Johnny recognized the value of faith in building a strong family. He was an active member of Truth Tabernacle of God, located in Pompano Beach, Florida. His commitment to God, family and community afforded him the opportunity to live life to the fullest. Johnny’s legacy of kindness, strength and service touched the lives of many who will continue to honor his memory and uphold the values he lived by. Johnny transitioned on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, to be with the Lord. Preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; four siblings, James Lamar, Sr., Robert Lamar, Sr., Barbara Jean Taylor, and Catherine Skinner; and brother-in-law, Elijah Pat Larkins, Johnny’s life of service and love for others will live in the hearts and minds of his children; Theresa Knight, Maurice Dix, Sr., Johnny Lamar, III (Jessica), Devan Lamar, Sr., and Amber Lamar; his eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his brothers, Eddie ‘Nick’ Lamar (Estella), Benny Lamar, Sr.; his sisters, Bettye ‘Jack’ Larkins, Viola Johnson; his sisters-in-law, Latrice H. Lamar and Willa Dean Fulmore; a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
