Eula Mae Smith

Burial is on Friday 10am Eula’s Journey Born in Leflore County, Mississippi on January 4, 1936, Eula Mae was the daughter of Alice Martin Jones and Wiley Jones. Eula grew up in Mississippi and later relocated to Deerfield Beach, Florida. After coming to Florida, Eula met and married Joe Smith who preceded her in death. Eula obeyed the Gospel of Christ at 15th Street Church of Christ in Pompano Beach, subsequently placing her membership at the Deerfield Beach Church of Christ. For many years, she faithfully and cheerfully served on several ministries, to name a few (Kitchen, Baptism, Cleaning, Education and Evangelism). Eula completely gave of herself in service to God and mankind until her health began to decline, resulting in her moving to Indiana to be cared for by her family. Eula is probably most remembered for her remarkable singing ability, fondly recognized for “Ninety-Nine and a Half”. She was always ready with a song regardless of where she was…at church, at home or in front of complete strangers. Eula was well known for her green thumb, her incredible sewing skills, and for being an excellent cook; especially her collard greens and famous ‘Sunday cornbread’. She also took pride in her work in ceramics and interior decorating of her home. No one was a stranger to Eula as her positive, fun-loving, pleasant personality was inviting to everyone. Her smile and sassy nature kept her young at heart, allowing her to fit in with any group of people. She loved to laugh, make others laugh, and loved being around children. Eula opened her home to many, was always willing to lend a helping hand, and was known for giving more than expected of her. She was loved in life, will be loved in death, and missed by many. On Friday, October 13, 2017 in Portage, Indiana, Eula Mae Smith answered God’s call from the labor of this life. She is preceded in death by her mother Alice Jones, and her brothers Orbie Jones and James Jones. Eula’s memory will be forever cherished by her sons Eddie Roy (LuAnn) Jones and Joe Nathan Smith Jr.; Angela and Lamond Walls whom she raised as her children; her grandchildren, Michelle Santana, Claudia Jones and Caleb Jones; four great-grandchildren; her siblings, Bessie Ruth Harris, Hattie Hogan and Monroe (Leoma) Jones; nieces and nephews; Godsons, Sylvester ‘Neal’, Rush Jr., Christopher Rush, Daniel Rush and Christopher ‘CJ’ Thomas; and a host of other family and friends, and her Church of Christ family.
