Sunrise: April 13, 1981 Beloved LATOYUA ROSHAWN JONES was born on April 13, 1981 in Ft Lauderdale, Florida to the young parents Rebecca Jones and Tom Brown. Toyua’s village of great grandparents Annie and Willie Lyas and Sylvia Brown, who proceed her in death, grandmother and godmother stepped in and was selfless in rearing, molding, instilling sound Christian values and developing the STRONG lovely spirit we all got to know. Christian experience: Latoyua spent her adolescent years learning about the Lord at the Freewill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her late Great Uncle, Rev. Joseph Jones. Latoyua was baptized at an early age and participated in all auxiliaries in the church. The youth choir is where she found her passion for singing. Education: Latoyua was educated in the Broward County School system where she graduated from Blanche Ely High School with some amazing young people in the class of 2000. While in school she and a group of her friends started a girls singing group called “La‘Hope”. She participated until she went off to attend Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach, FL where she was a faithful member of the Honorable Bethune Cookman Concert Choral under the leadership of the late Rebecca Steel. Once Latoyua returned home from Bethune Cookman College she never forgot her early Christian experience and she joined the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Dr. Robert C. Stanley and continued to sing in the choir and work with other auxiliaries. Turn the page Latoyua gave birth to two children Kamora and Keshawn. Anyone who knew Toyua knew that here children were her ALL. Latoyua vowed to always be present in her children’s life. She never missed any games her son or daughter had no matter how much pain she was in. She always allowed her children to be children giving them many opportunities to participate in any activities they thought they wanted even if it was a fad. Being the wonderful spirit she was, she attracted a host of children and became mom to many. To secure a stable home for her children Latoyua worked diligently through the Habitat program and obtained a home for her family where she resided until her transition. Employment Latoyua worked several years with Allied Barton Security Company. To improve her situation, she joined the Department of Juvenile Justice in Ft Lauderdale, FL where she worked over 15years. Latoyua worked and moved up to Detention Officer II until her health failed her. Latoyua meet a host of men and women that became her brothers and sisters. They all worked, laughed, partied, and mourned together. The friendships that she fostered with her fellow co-worker’s past and present were undeniable. Thank you!
