“Eric’s” Life Reflections Receiving of the Crown Eric Charles Lewis was born in Pompano Beach, FL on May 27, 1962, to the late Mattie Lewis and Henry L. Batten. He graduated from Ely High School in 1980 for whom he played football for during the years of 1976 – 1980; a sport Charles really – really-really loved football! His favorite NFL team was the Raiders. After high school Charles tried his hands at a variant of occupations, one of the earliest ones was at North Broward Hospital where he worked as a cafeteria assistant and acquired the endearing nickname “Tiny”. He became a certified plumber and drove as a local driver for a while. He found his niche driving the big rigs – 18-wheeler tractor/trailer long distance which became his lasting career until his health would no longer allow. But he reminisces about it often telling stores about the wide-open spaces and their beauty and the wonderous discoveries he came across. Charles was truly a shing star with a bright angel like spirit. He touched everyone who came about his way. And if you’ve been about his way you would attest that Charles is a friendly, kind, loving, caring soul. Always full of light and life – even in his worst of times and going throughs… during his most challenging, difficult times he maintained a positive attitude and outlook and an energetic spirit and would say, “oh, I’m good. It’s going to be alright – it is what it is”. With all the things that can be said about Charles the most notable one of all is that he found The Lord – ‘for real’ as he said on May 18, 2022. He made a statement of declaration, and his goal was to go from church-to-church to testify of his God’s goodness, grace, and mercy to him. Little did Charles know, when Heavenly Father heard him say all that, He to His remembrance His word in Jeremiah 29:11. So, on July 1, 2022, Heavenly Father went into action and began working on a good plan for Charles that took him into the future and hope Charles anticipated. Charles is truly blessed to have so many who genuinely love and care for him. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife Tundye Szabo, Father Henry Batten, (1) Brother Rodney Lewis (Betty), (2) Special Brothers Corinthian Hudson and Ronnie Fleming, (5) Sisters Beryl Lewis (Melvin), DeAnna Lewis-Chance, Andria Hardwick, Karen Turner, Pamela King, God Sister Kimberly Bozeman, (3) God Children Prashant, Litisha, and Kalon, (2) Uncles Caleb Folsom, Wallace Fleming, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. When life separates us, we know it is only your soul saying goodbye to your body, but your spirit will be with us always. When we see a bird chirping on a nearby branch, we will know it is you singing to us. When a butterfly brushes gently by us so care freely we’ll know it is you assuring us you are free from pain. When the gentle fragrance of a flower catches our attention, we will know it is you reminding us to appreciate the simple things in life. When the sunshine through our window awakens us, we will feel the warmth of your love. When we hear the rain pitter pater against our windowsill, we will hear your words of wisdom and will remember what you taught us so well, that without rain trees cannot grow, without rain flowers cannot bloom without life’s challenges we cannot grow strong. When we look out to the sea we will think of your endless love for your family.
