MRS. BETTYE LOU MOORE MAXWELL BORN: April 4, 1937 DEMISE: July 17, 2020 Bettye Lou Moore Maxwell was born April 4, 1937 to the late Jesse Moore and the late Jessie Lee James Morgan in Havana, Florida. She was baptized on August 14, 1949 at Old Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Havana, Florida. Bettye received her Elementary and Secondary Education in the school system of Gadsden County, Florida. She then furthered her education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) for 3 years and 1.5 years at Bethune Cookman College (BCC) where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Education. Bettye was a proud and only student intern at Blanche Ely High School in Broward County in 1963; working alongside of her was her student teacher Marilyn Holmes. After graduating from Bethune Cookman College (BCC) in 1964 she taught school at Carter Parramore High School in Quincy, Florida. As years passed, Bettye found her way back to Pompano Beach and attended Florida Atlantic University (FAU) where she received a certification in Elementary Education then taught at Braithwaite and Deerfield Park Elementary in Deerfield Beach, Florida. With great joy Bettye married Joseph G. Maxwell on December 21, 1967 and in 1970 to their surprise a gorgeous new addition to their family was born a baby girl which they named Leilona. In 1972, She was transferred to Broadview Elementary for integration purpose. While working at Broadview Elementary School she earned a Master of Science degree and taught Specific Learning Disability. Bettye always felt the need to major in a field that would train her to be able to help the ones that were being left behind. She continued this behavior throughout her lifetime by tutoring in her handy dandy garage. She was one of the greatest teachers and tutors in Broward County, Florida. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, god sister, and friend to many. She was called to rest on Friday, July 17, 2020 at 7:22 pm. Precious memories will always remain with those who knew and loved her. Bettye is survived by a daughter Leilona E. Maxwell, grandchildren, Kialona I. Sharp, Appollonia M. Maxwell and Enyi R. Maxwell, great grandchildren, Daydron Laster, Jr., Antonia McCray and Ashton McCray; sisters Doris V. Derrico (Levane), of Pompano Beach, Florida, Lemeldon Norwood (Willie), of Seffner, Florida, Berta Jean Kemp of Havana, Florida, Gwendolyn Reed (preceded her in death), Sherry Miller(Henry) of Havana, Florida, Cherry Moore of Tennessee, Loucretia Moore of Tallahassee, Florida, Wonda Faye Moore of Orlando, Florida, brothers Willie Morgan, Jr. (Sylvia), Kenneth Morgan, Sr., Lorenzo Moore, Wally Moore, Ferrell Moore, all of Havana, Florida, Victor Moore(Geraldine) of Midway, Florida, Wilmer Moore (preceded her in death), Jolly Moore (preceded her in death), Choice Moore (preceded her in death), a god brother Rev. Jack Leland, Sr. of Thomasville, Georgia.; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family.
