Annie Terry

Annie Ruth Terry was born on February 17, 1934 in Buena Vista, Georgia to the late Rosa Lee Lockhart. She was the third of seven children. She departed this earthly life on May 13, 2019. Preceding her in death were her four sisters Willie Mae Lockhart, Ella Bess Bateman, Inez Ivory and Lovie Jane McGauley and two brothers John Wesley Lockhart and James Lockhart. She was educated in the public school system of Marion County. She gave her life to Christ while attending Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She led a Christian life by her words and deeds. Annie fell in love and married the late Ulysses Terry, Sr. who was her loving and devoted husband for 62 years. Shortly after marrying, they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. To this union was born two children, Alice Terry-Thurston and Ulysses Terry, Jr., Esq. She so enjoyed working with small children that she became certified in Early Childhood. She taught at the Day Nursery’s Lilly Center for 30 years. In 1997 she was recognized by the Indianapolis Star Newspaper as an “Unsung Hero” for being an extraordinary woman and dedicated teacher. After retirement she enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. Annie and Ulysses lived in Indianapolis until 2012, when they decided to move to South Florida to be closer to their family. Precious memories will forever be cherished by her loving children, Alice Terry-Thurston (Floyd), Ulysses Terry, Jr., four grandchildren, Marcus Terry, Dr. Erin Thurston, Marissa Cameron, Brent Thurston, and great grandson Josiah Cameron. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Annie Ruth Terry leaves a legacy of love, family traditions, and a strong work ethic.
