Alice B. Scott

Alice Barnett Scott was the youngest child born to the late Riley Barnett, Sr. and Eva Frances O’Bryant Barnett in Carrboro, North Carolina on October 11, 1932. Alice attended Orange County Training School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Alice was the Valedictorian of her class in 1949. At an early age, Alice developed passion for learning how to play the piano and became the pianist at Second Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. During her high school years, Alice played the trombone in the marching band. In the 1950’s, Alice moved to Pompano Beach and obtained employment at Florida Power and Light. Alice B. Barnett was the first African American to work at this location (Pompano Beach). Later on she obtained employment with Blanche Ely High School and worked in various positions prior to her retirement from the Broward County School System. In the late 1950’s, Alice met and married the love of her life Calvin James Scott. To this union they were blessed with five daughters. Alice B. Scott enjoyed singing and directing choirs. She loved teaching music and educational classes. She served in several ministries within the church and assisted many in the community. Alice Barnett Scott was preceded in death by her husband: Calvin James Scott, Sr., a daughter: Hilda Rene Scott Worrie, two brothers: Arthur and Riley Barnett, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters: Brenda McCall (Ron), Etta Scott, Angela Butler, Kimberly Mesfun; two stepdaughters: Dr. Helen Bryant, Gloria J. Cannon; one sister: Eva Barnett; eleven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Order
