Mary Alice Clay

Her Presence: On a pleasant spring day of May 25, 1954 a gentle spirit entered the earth to the parentage of the late Fawn Lee Tai, Sr. and Elminer Tai of Pompano Beach, FL. Mary Alice Clay was indeed a special Angel that God bestowed upon the Tai family. She was an introverted and peaceful woman after God’s own heart. Her Academia & Achievements: Mary’s education was most important to her and her family. She attended Broward County Public Schooling from Elementary to High School at Sanders Park Elementary through Junior High and Blanche Ely High School. As time had passed, Mary began to grow fonder of life and knew that God had given her the innate ability of Love for children and youth. In the year of 1978, Mary relocated to Miami, FL to pursue her calling and expand her education in Child Development where she received an Associate Certification from the Florida Department of Education Division of Applied Technology and Adult Education Family and Consumer Sciences Program. After returning back to her hometown of Pompano Beach, FL, Mary continued her education at Broward Community College, receiving Child Care Training Developmental Practices & Behavioral Health Screening Training for Young Children and Healthy Schools Community Outreach Program at Holy Cross Hospital. Her Spiritual Journey: As an adolescent, Mary received Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Pompano Beach, FL. During her relocation to Miami, FL, Mary’s spiritual journey continued to fester and increase for the love of Christ and she devoted her faith and time to St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church. In spite of her position and lot in life: whether she transitioned here to there, Mary’s devotion, time and heart never separated from her spiritual walk with the Lord. Upon her peaceful departure of her earthly home, Mary was steadfast and ingrained in her church home at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church of Deliverance in Pompano Beach, FL under the spiritual leadership of Bishop Gary McCleod where she joined in 2008. She was a faithful and dedicated servant on the Adult Usher Board. She reminded everyone to never leave out “Deliverance” in her church’s name. Her Life & Family Ties: With all Mary had accomplished, she knew that her life was not meant to live alone. In 1974, she met and was united in holy matrimony to Eddie Lee Clay of Pompano Beach, FL who passed this earthly home. Her life was finally complete. She then continued on her career path of working diligently as a preschool teacher at Cynthia’s Daycare and from 2001-2013 she was employed at the Church of God in Christ Preschool. In her time of leisure activities, Mary became a dedicated member of the Red Hat Society and the City of Pompano Beach Senior Program at the E. Pat Larkin’s Center where she enjoyed the hobby of reading the WORD of GOD and Latch hooking. Her Departure: On Thursday, March 21, 2019, God opened his book of life and called Mary’s name. Without hesitation, she peacefully answered to God’s heavenly call. She has transcended to her heavenly home leaving a treasure of her life here on earth. Rhonda Tai, Fawn Lee Tai, Jr. Earnestine Tai, (Stepmother), Melisa Tai, Rodney Tai, (Maxine); Freeman Tai (Lucinda), Robert Black (Chermaine); Ora Lee Higgins, Catherine Downs, Carolyn Wright, Elvira Singleton, Elmira Singleton, & Susan Singleton; Two uncles: Larry Reese, Lenore Schumate & One aunt: Marla Weeks; Nine nieces, Thirteen nephews, Seventeen great-nieces, Twenty-one great nephews, Five great-great nieces, Five great-great nephews, Two Goddaughters and an entou- rage of family and friends.
