James Junior Cosey

James Cosey, Jr. was born on October 5, 1982, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Broward General Hospital, to the late James Cosey, Sr. and Juanita Gonzales Cosey. Affectionately known as James “Baby Jr.”Cosey was raised in Pompano Beach, Florida, alongside his family. He attended schools within the Broward County School District. From an early age, James was known for his vibrant personality and boundless energy. He loved fishing, working on cars, and riding dirt bikes. As a youth, he excelled in baseball, earning numerous awards and becoming one of the best players on the field. His passion for the game remained a cherished part of his life. At the age of 20, James welcomed his beloved and only child, Janya Cosey, into the world. He loved his family deeply and would do anything to protect them. He shared a particularly close bond with his mother, and despite his playful reluctance to admit it, he was proudly a “Mama’s Boy.” James was strong-willed and spirited, and although his fiery nature sometimes led him into trouble, those who knew him best knew that he loved with his whole heart. He believed firmly in standing up for what he felt was right and showed his love in his own unique way. He especially enjoyed the holidays, spending time with loved ones, sharing laughter, and telling jokes. His presence could light up a room, and he was dearly loved by many. James had a heart full of love for his family and friends. He enjoyed bringing joy to others and found happiness in seeing the smiles on the faces of those around him. One of his last outings was a trip with his sister to purchase fireworks. He was genuinely excited about the simple pleasure of spending time together and celebrating the occasion. Before his passing, James found a career that truly suited him—one that provided him opportunities and experiences beyond anything he had imagined, and a careet that he truly enjoyed with Event Effects in Pompano Beach, where he worked in lighting and stage production for concerts and special events throughout Florida. He took great pride in his work and treasured the opportunities and friendships it brought him. James’ memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Though absent from this earthly life, we find comfort in the promise that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. On Sunday, July 5, 2026, James answered the Master’s call and entered into eternal rest. James leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted and loving mother, Juanita Gonzales Cosey his beloved daughter, Janya Cosey and his siblings: Leola Nelson (Calvin), Sherry Jones (Willie), Donnalee Cosey, Angelee Cosey, and Archie Lee Cosey (Maeshay). and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will forever live on in their hearts. He is now reunited with his father, James Cosey, Sr. Until we meet again, you will forever be loved and remembered.
