Hollis Wright, Sr.

A Distinguished Man On March 26, 1936, Hollis Wesley Wright, Sr. was born in Uvalda, Georgia to the parentage of Tommie Sr. and Maggie Wright who preceded him in death. Reared along with his four siblings: Annie Pearl Swabby, Tommie Wright Jr. (Claudia), Joseph Wright, Sr., and Melba Blue (Reynold); Hollis was born of the Christian faith and attended Solomon Temple in Vidalia, Georgia as a child and was baptized in his youth age. In the year of 1951, Hollis and his family relocated to Pompano Beach, FL. A Youthful Man In his youth, Hollis was eager to learn and always had a thirst for knowledge. He was adamant about attending school and acquiring an education for himself. During his time of youthful age, in the eighth grade, life took a turn for he and his family with the early demise of his mother’s passing, and Hollis was given the task to assist with providing for his family. He later attended trade school for plumbing. A Family & Community Man A life of family and labor is what he admired the most and accomplished. He pursued his career as a licensed plumber and worked with prestigious local companies in the Tri-County areas of South Florida and within his own communities and throughout Broward County. He was the skilled neighborhood plumber, and he took pride in his services rendered to many families. Hollis was a stern man and possessed an unyielding need to take care of his family. After working diligently for his family, Hollis desired to create his immediate family and joined Dorothy J. Blue in Holy Matrimony in the year of 1957. From this union, five beautiful children were born: Frederick J. Wright, Sr. (preceded him in death), Denise A. Beckford, Hollis W. Wright, Jr., Sharon R. Wright, and Suzette Wright. A Providing Man In rearing and providing for his children and family, Hollis enjoyed his life of watching television on historic documentaries, gardening, fishing, reading, and cooking. His nostalgic mindset, reminiscing on his youthful ages, experiences with people and lessons he learned throughout his life, was his main topic of lasting conversations with others. He was a man of a lot of wisdom that was always willing to share what he knew about life and what experiences taught him to be the man he became. Hollis was interested in faith-filled readings, history books, and various literature that taught him knowledge he would constantly share with family members, friends, and people he encountered. A Stern Man “Don’t take no wooden nickels” was a phrase he would say when standing firm on business and in any given situation. This was his frame of mind for anyone to always be knowledgeable about their life, and to gain an understanding of all things and make a better life for themselves. Hollis was a friendly man but handled people and business with a great deal of integrity and was very expressive with an uncompromising manner. All that knew him highly respected him, and honored him in many ways in his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, relative and friend. A Retired Man After his life of laboring for his family, Hollis continued to serve families within his community until he gracefully aged and life challenges prevailed over his health. He continued to do what he loved the most: gardening and cooking for his family. On the day of Saturday, March 16, 2024, he retired his will to eternal rest in the arms of God. Wright, Jr. (Alexis), Tevaris D. Wright, Sr. (Tamara), Jeremy J. Wright, Cortney C. Wright (Iman), Dan Mathis III, Lakesha S. Wright (David), Michael D. Beckford, Isaac T. Wright, Ahmad R. Wright, Aaliyah A. Wright; Dillon Burrell; Great Grandchildren: Ashanti Dawkins, Layla Storr, Layana Storr, Frederick J. Wright, Jr., Tevaris D. Wright, Jr., Alana Wright, Saige Wright, Mila Beckford, Kentrell Powell, Kortney Wright, Phoenix Wright, Dallas Wright, Denver & Dallas Lexidor, Londyn Stanley and Ah’keem Wright. Sister: Annie Pearl Swabby, Melba Blue (Reynold). Special Nephew: Eric Wright; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbors, and close friends.
