Eugene Spencer

Eugene Spencer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024. Born in Pompano Beach, FL, Eugene was a man of strength, love, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. He was the cherished husband of the late Annette Spencer, with whom he shared 46 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and the values they held dear. Eugene was the proud son of Oglesby Spencer and Mamie Ivey Spencer, and he was blessed to be raised with love and guidance from his stepmother, Mary Spencer. A graduate of Coconut Creek High School in 1977, Eugene was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. He held various jobs throughout his life, from laying concrete and maintaining lawns to serving the city of Fort Lauderdale. Eugene found his true calling at Broward County Airport – Aviation Unit, where he worked until his retirement in 2018. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity and a trusted friend. Eugene was preceded in death by his loving wife Annette, his parents, his mother-in-law Patricia Ann Roach, and his siblings John Spencer (Corene), George Spencer (Virginia), William Spencer (Cynthia), Ocie McCloud (JC), Mamie Ruth Taylor, Calvin Spencer Sr. (Gloria), James Spencer (Patricia), and Moses Spencer. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children, Christopher Roach (Shonia), Latrail Spencer, and Anntoinette Sheppard (Christopher), and his cherished grandchildren Jasmine Bryant (Preston), Christopher Roach Jr., James Allen, Dwight Thomas, Jalen Spencer Thomas, Antonio Spencer, Christopher Sheppard Jr., Christian Sheppard, Journee McCloud, and King Ja’Har Spencer. Eugene was also a proud great-grandfather to Jeremiah Bryant, Payton Bryant, Paisley Bryant, JaQuan Spencer, and Jada Bryant. Eugene is survived by his devoted brother and sister, Daniel Spencer and Lucille Bengochea, as well as his in-laws Marie Powell, Marion Roach, Tina Hughes (Edward), Virgina Spencer, and Gloria Spencer. He was also a loving godfather to Ashley Merrell, Kenny Myles, Keydren Smith, Katina Foreste, and Jordan Boyd. His numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends will forever hold his memory in their hearts. Eugene Spencer was a man admired and adored by all who knew him. His strength, care, and unwavering commitment to his family will be remembered and cherished by those he leaves behind. His love and light will continue to shine through the lives of those he touched.
