Doris Hoggan

Doris Green Hoggan was born to the late Fred Green and Jennie Phillips Green on July 21, 1949, in Soperton, Georgia. She entered this world as a super premature baby with extreme challenges. She was not expected to survive long after birth. Her special Aunt Lela nursed her to health and gave her a great start in life. When Doris was a young girl, she attended schools in Soperton, Georgia and Pompano Beach, Florida. She delighted in traveling between the two locations and became part of two communities. While in Georgia, she was entrusted to the care of her eldest sister, Lizzie Mae Smith. She was raised with an extensive family and delighted in knowing how the family tree was constructed. Her siblings and cousins throughout both stated served as her best friends in the early years. Doris attended Coleman Elementary, Treutlen County Schools and Blanche Ely High School. Her education included various studies. She was a licensed cosmetologist, cook, baker and a Certified Nurses Assistant. Doris met her lifelong partner and husband in the late sixties and her life was forever changed. Their union produced four children - Roderick, Marcia, Gerrick and Cedric. They raised them in Lauderhill, FL, in a home specifically chosen to raise the family to adulthood. She provided great partnership and support to her husband through the years. This enabled his career to advance and serve the family. Doris has enjoyed keeping her home, raising her children and nurturing her grandchildren. Over the years, she met wonderful friends. Some preceded her to the afterlife and some that remained with her until she passed on. Throughout the last few years, Doris experienced serious health challenges. She prevailed through most of them with restored health. She fought each challenge valiantly. Early Sunday morning, on November 17, 2024, Doris took her final breath surrounded by close family. Her transition was gentle and peaceful. Doris was preceded in her passing by her two loving sons, Cedric and Gerrick. She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Rufus Hoggan, daughter Marcia, and son Roderick. She is also survived by grandchildren: Takayla Hoggan, Whitney Holmes, Wesley Holmes, Tyranesha Hoggan, Walter Holmes, Tykima Hoggan, TyShari Thomas, Brittany Rowe and Cedric Hoggan Jr.; three great grandchildren: Ethan-James Bronson, Jaliyah Bronson, and Kaylee Oliphant; surviving siblings: Ronald Green (Jean), Linda Gibbons, Celestine Thompson; sisters-in-law: Loretta Edwards, Niderah Shaheed, Matilda Henley (Moses), Cora Rhodes, Brenda Hoggan, and Linda Hoggan; brothers-in-law: Leroy Hoggan (Emma), Lonnell Hoggan (Daphne), Clifton Edwards; she was preceded in passing by siblings: Lizzie Mae Smith, Alfonzie Green, Jewel Williams, Annette Newsome, Freddie Jean Green and Evelyn Jordan; brother-in-law Charles Edwards. In addition, she has a host of relatives and many friends.
