Bertha Mae Jones

Bertha Mae McNeal Jones was born on October 9, 1953, to the late Beddie Mae McNeal and Samuel McNeal in St. Catherine, Florida, in the community of Sumter. As a young girl, she relocated with her family to Deerfield Beach, Florida, where she was raised and educated. She attended Braithwaite Elementary School, Deerfield Beach Elementary School, and Deerfield Beach Middle School before earning her GED from Pompano Beach High School. Bertha was a hardworking and dedicated woman who spent more than 20 years as a skilled tile setter before retiring. She took great pride in her work and was admired for her determination, craftsmanship, and unwavering work ethic. Affectionately known as "Bert," Bertha had a heart as generous as her smile. She found immense joy in cooking delicious meals, fishing, and serving others whenever she had the opportunity. Whether sharing a meal, lending a helping hand, or offering words of encouragement, Bert touched countless lives with her kindness, compassion, and loving spirit. Her faith was the foundation of her life. Bertha was a devoted member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Deerfield Beach, Florida, where she faithfully worshipped and served alongside her church family. She loved the Lord and demonstrated her faith through her service, humility, and love for others. Above all, Bertha cherished her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, cherished great-grandmother, beloved sister, aunt, and friend. Her family was her greatest blessing, and she poured her heart into every generation. Bertha leaves to cherish her precious memories of her loving and devoted husband of 19 years, Thomas Jefferson Jones. She was the loving mother of daughters Lakessa White, Jamie Johnson, Tamia Jones, and Taryn Jones. Three sons, two beloved sons who proceeded her in death George Anthony McNeal ("Total Kaos") and Torrance Jones, and Richard Branton. She also leaves to mourn her passing her sisters, Dora Riley-McNeal and Lisa Stephens, both of Deerfield Beach, Florida; sisters-in-law, Gail (Billy) Johnson of Maryland, Iris (Leon) Griffin of Georgia, and Jernoise Robinson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and her brother-in-law, Johnny Robinson (Rosalyn). She is also survived by her loving aunts, Luvenia Evans (Rudy), Essie Felton, and Marylee Stubbs, all of Deerfield Beach, Florida. Bertha's legacy continues through her 18 cherished grandchildren: Donald Jr., Ashanti, Ashonti, George Jr., Latrinity, Jaylon, Madison, Kolton, Legend, Bryleigh, Tiorion, Tiorge, Harmony, Keon, Jalam, Jayden, Dekiyah, Ashley, and Dwayne II. She was also blessed with seven precious great-grandchildren: Alyra, Jah'hir, A'urion, Tay'veion, Kauai, Karsyn, and Santiago. In addition to her immediate family, Bertha leaves behind her “Diva” Diane Wilson, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and lifelong friends who will forever treasure the love, wisdom, laughter, and beautiful memories she shared with them. Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in knowing that Bertha's life was a testament to faith, love, service, and perseverance. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her. "Well done, good and faithful servant...
