Alzetta Boyd

Alzetta Deloris Cason was the second daughter born to the late Dan W. Cason Jr. and Queen Esther Cason on October 21,1946, in Pompano Beach, FL. She and her older sister were baptized and raised in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Peete. Alzetta received her high school diploma in 1964 from Blanche Ely High School where she played basketball and was on the swim team. She was a doting single mom to three daughters: Gail, Perida, and Charlotte until 1966, when she met and married James “Bo” Boyd. Together they grew their family to include Tracie, Danny, and Tamekia. Though Alzetta had a full house, she dedicated herself to community service and social issues. After the closing of Blanche Ely High School following the 1969-1970 school year. Alzetta, along with a small group of activists, including Ernestine Price, Nancy Bosman, Rev. Collier, and Rev. Douse staged a sit-in at the Broward County School Board meeting which led to them being arrested. The late Alcee Hastings took their case and after large scale media attention, the school board voted to reopen Ely High School in 1974. In 1978, Alzetta played a vital role in the opening of her and her husband’s roofing company J. Boyd Roofing. J. Boyd Roofing successfully served the community until Mr. Boyd’s untimely demise in 1988. With three underaged children, Alzetta continued in the roofing business doing much of the work herself until 1996 when she sold the business. Over the next 10 years, Alzetta and her children became the caretakers of both of her parents, who died in 1993 and 2005 respectively. She then returned to the workforce where she served in food service at Holy Cross Hospital, and then at BSO Trinity Food Service where she retired from in October 2023. In 2006, along with two of her children, she joined The Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church Family under the teaching and leadership of The Rev. Dr. Robert C. Stanley where she remained a faithful member until her death. She leaves to cherish and honor her legacy, six children: Gail Robinson (Richard), Perida Lynch (Bennie), Charlotte Cason (Heaven), Nicole Tracy Boyd (A’Nya), Danny Boyd, (Elizabeth), and Tamekia Ramey (Ian). Two sisters: Perida Fillmore (Curtis), and Rose Poole (Earl). Two brothers that preceded her in death: Walter “Tar” Roberts, and Alphonso Cason (Barbara). One beloved granddaughter, Sierra Robertson who preceded her in death. Elder Cousins: Marilyn Robinson, Betty Evans, Patricia Brooks, Clint Cason, Ronald Harvey, Connie Miller, Clyde and Connie Wofford, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, three bonus daughters: Theresa Spates Freer, Jernice Johnson, and Wendy Belle. A special niece: Angelet (Peaches) Ansley, and the most loving daughter in law: Elizabeth Boyd. In addition, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, classmates and friends mourn her passing.
